Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14
Sunday School students are a vital part of our church family!
We take great pride in our efforts to offer our children an active role in our congregation through meaningful Christian education, inclusive worship, in addition to special events and programs that bridge church and home.
Our first priority is the safety of all children who enter our church. Please take a moment to review our Safe Sanctuary Guidelines.
Our Typical School Schedule (September-May)
9:30-9:45: Families arrive for worship which starts at 10:00 in the sanctuary. There are activity bags and nametags available at the Children’s Welcome Center located in the front of the Sanctuary.
During the service, children are called forward for a special message from the pastor called the “Story For All Ages.” After this message, children and teachers dismiss from the Sanctuary to the Education Wing (approx. 10:20).
Students then proceed to:
- The PreK classroom (3 & 4 year olds)
- Children’s Choir rehearsal
- Children’s Handbells rehearsal (5th-7th graders)
- The 8th grade classroom
*Communion Sundays: All PreK-5th grade classes gather in the Upper Chapel to share the Lord’s Supper. 6th-8th grade students remain in the sanctuary for the full worship service on communion Sundays. We have an open table and all ages are welcome to partake; please inform teachers of special Communion preferences for any child.
10:30: Following music rehearsals or Communion the students are escorted to their Sunday School classrooms for weekly lessons.
11:15: Sunday School classes are dismissed. Teachers will escort students to meet parents in the Fireside Room.
All families can register online for Sunday School at : http://janesvilleucc.sparksundayschool.org/users/register . Just follow the directions to create a new account, and be sure to add all of your information and family members to your profile. Feel free to create an account just to “look around” at our Sunday School announcements and the Sunday School calendar.
Visiting children are always welcome in our Sunday School, but registering your child at any time in the year is helpful to let us know about allergies and/or special concerns and for you to receive important news and updates about our program.
Our PreK, K-2, and 3-5 classes are thrilled to be using the SPARK Classroom curriculum to activate faith!
Students are encouraged to find and explore unique paths along their personal faith journeys while learning church history, reviewing Bible stories, and discussing relevant contemporary issues.
9th grade- Faith Formation
Students spend this year working with the pastor, a mentor from the congregation, and their peers to examine and deepen their unique personal faith journeys. Students are welcomed into adult memebership in the congregation after completing this process.
Summer Sunday School (June-August)
Christian Education should be a year round (and life long) process! Therefore, we offer an annual program for students to explore the wonder’s of God’s world during regular Sunday School time throughout the summer months. Programs encourage fun, faith, and fellowship immersed in engaging and inspirational themes.
