Who We Are

First Congregational United Church of Christ is a historic, downtown church with deep roots in the city of Janesville. As a congregation we covenant to live out the following purpose statement:
  • We are a worshipping congregation with a growing faith, grounded in God, shaped and inspired by Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
  • We encourage freedom of expression coming from our varied cultures, we strive to create a safe place where diversity is honored and welcomed.
  • We are committed to joining others in caring for the wider community and sharing in the on-going struggle for truth, wholeness, justice and peace.

No matter where you are on your faith journey YOU are welcome here!

Sunday Worship
9:50 a.m.

Child Care

Child care is provided for infants and young children to age three during worship.  A professional attendant is on duty 9:50 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Church School

Children attend the first part of the worship service.  They hear the scripture read and are present for at least one hymn and other music of the service.

The pastor shares a message appropriate for children, usually based on the scriptural theme for the service.

At a designated point in the worship service they leave for Church School which runs until 11:15 a.m.

Healing Service

Included as part of our Sunday Worship the fifth Sunday of a month as well as during Lent.  This is a service which fosters healing of self, of others or of the world. It is a time of prayer, scripture readings, anointing and laying on of hands.

Fellowship Time:

Join us after worship for fellowship and refreshment in our Fireside Room and get to know our members.

Accessibility

Attempting to be a faith community which is inclusive rather than exclusive, First Congregational Church strives to provide a barrier free environment within our building in order to make worship and participation in other church programs readily accessible to all.
